Lilly family papers, 1826-1950 (bulk 1892-1940).

This collection contains the papers of Judge Grant E. Lilly and his wife, Anna. The family lived in Richmond, Kentucky, then moved to Lexington before moving back to Richmond. The bulk of the collection contains Anna Lilly's papers pertaining to the Huguenot Society of America. She was the founding member of the Kentucky branch and served as its president from 1931 to 1940. After the death of Judge Lilly and due to her own poor health, Mrs. Lilly resigned from the Huguenot Society in 1940. The Huguenot papers include letters from national officers of the society, 1932 to 1940. There are also newsletters, bulletins, convention programs, bank books, rules for admissions, and a brief history of the Huguenots in America. The collection also includes correspondence and papers relating to Mrs. Lilly's involvement in other organizations. The collection contains correspondence and legal documents from Judge Lilly's law practice, including numerous copies of property deeds that were originally filed in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. These property deeds are embossed with the seal of the State of Kentucky Land Office. There are also two items relating to P.A. Lilly, presumably an ancestor of Grant Lilly.
